Conoco Phillips Rodeo Run
Well Saturday marked my first timed run. And it was a blast!!!We got to downtown around 8:30 and prepared for our 5K run. Its only a small run but for me it was the start of a new hobby. Melissa, Gerry, Ina, and I went to the starting line and watched all the people line up for the run and the parade that followed. It was amazing to see all the people of Houston gathered together for this event. About ten minutes before the race started Aaron and Jay started making their way down the path that we would soon be running. After a quick stop at Starbucks they were ready to watch and cheer us on. Once the race started Melissa and i ran side by side the entire way, motivating eachother with every turn and looking for the other while we were making our way through the masses. Because it was only a 5K we were not offically timed with pacers, but we checked the time when we took off and chekced the time once we were done. Which put us at about 24-26 minutes. Now I don’t know whether thats a good or bad time but we were among the first to finish and entire the post run party. We grabbed some water and bananas, and started looking for our number one fans. Aaron, Art (Melissa’s fiance), and Melissa’s Dad arrived shortly after we did. After the run we decided not only to register for a 10K in april, but we thought it would be awesome to register for the Houston Marathon that takes place in November. Chances are that we’ll run the half. But I’m excited about the training. Although I’ve never really trained for a run like that, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Once the race was over we made our way back to our cars, changed and went to the rodeo. Once we got there we went through the carnival and made our way to the bbq tents. They were having a cook-off that day. So we got to reward ourselves with all the bbq you could eat.
The entire event was alot of fun. Once we got to the cook-off we meet up with some of Gerry’s co-workers and walked from booth to booth.

Running a side swim season for me has also started. We have our first meet this weekend at Rice University. This meet holds a special place for me becuse this was the first competitive meet I ever swam in. Which marks a 1 year anniversary for me. And I know its silly but I fill like I have accomplsied alot in that passed year. Today at pracice I put myself on the blocks and if you’ve keep up with my swim career you’ll know that diving has not been my friend. But today I got up on the blocks and dove in several times and my googles stayed on…yes…..=) Like I said earlier, I know it sounds silly but my googles have always been an off and on thing..literally.
Like always thanks for reading. keep in touch for results of the March Madness meet at Rice.
Have a great week!
